Go Cubs Go!
The Chicago Cubs pulled off a sports miracle in 2016 by breaking baseball's longest curse and winning the World Series. The City of Chicago rejoiced with a new sense of accomplishment and opportunity. But this is bigger than the City of Broad Shoulders. That's why it's called the World Series.
Baseball is a very unique sport, with only Cricket as the nearest relation. Baseball is known as America's Pastime. Only basketball rivals it's world popularity, but there is something different about baseball that separates from all other sports. The games are long. The athletes are diverse, not only in background and race, but in size and athletic ability.
Babe Ruth is known as likely the greatest player of all time. You might never have known by looking at him. And today's best player might be Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros. He is 5 foot 6. I remember when Spud Webb won the dunk contest, and thought he was something really special, but his career fell short. Jose Altuve's game is dynamic. He can do anything. He can hit for placement or power. He is known as one of the hardest worker's in any sport. And his hard work is paying off.
The Cubs's work is paying off too. They went from the perennial bottom to the top in only a few short years under a master plan devised by owner Tom Ricketts and his main hires Theo Epstein and Joe Maddon. They are the real Dream Team, and they also have a very unique approach to the game that keeps things fun and exciting while professional and focused on winning.
Having the Cubs pull off the impossible and turn around sporting's most notorious for losing franchise gives new hope everywhere in the world. The sky is not falling. The world is not ending. The economies are not crashing. Things are looking up. It shows how you can make a few changes and reinvest in yourself to build greatness.
If the Cubs can perform miracles, anyone can.
